Syria inquiry calls Kanaan death suicide

October 15th, 2005 · 10 Comments · Uncategorized

Ghazi Kanaan, Syria’s Interior Minister who was found dead in his office on Wednesday committed suicide, an official inquiry has found.

It will do little to reassure those who believe he was killed by those using him as a scapegoat for the Hariri murder. Denis Ross, former US negotiator says Kanaan’s death was murder, not suicide.

Dennis Ross is the same guy who blamed the failure of the 2000 Camp David talks on Arafat. Let’s not take him seriously.

American Offers to Stabilize Assad’s Regime in Exchange for Cooperation
    06:41 Oct 16, ’05 / 13 Tishrei 5766

(IsraelNN.com) American officials are continuing to apply pressure on Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad in an effort to have Damascus hand over those responsible for the death of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Washington is demanding that Syria also cease its ongoing support of Hizbullah and other terrorist organizations.

Should Assad choose to comply, America is committing to improved diplomatic relations that would lead to foreign investment into Syria’s near-bankrupt economy.

Sharing Israel’s concerns, it appears the White House is now aware of the fact that there is no viable alternative to Assad at present and overthrowing his government might result in the rise of an Islamic fundamentalist regime in Damascus.

In a related issue, reports indicate Washington in recent high-level talks with Israeli officials continues to call on Jerusalem to remain out of the picture, stating America will continue applying pressure on Syria without Israeli intervention.
