The first ever Lebanese embassy in Damascus is going to be built in Abu Rumaneh. Lebanon has also given Syria a prominent spot in Beirut.
The Syrian embassy is going to be in Ramlet Al-Baida in Beirut.
Abu Rumaneh (right) really was no surprise. It’s where most embassies are currently located (the rest are generally in Mezzeh). It’s also one of the most upmarket and expensive places in Damascus.
The two countries have discussed who will be the two ambassadors. Lebanon’s man is reported to be Michel Khoury – the current ambassador to Cyprus. Lebanese officials deny this.
Syria is expected to send Makram Obeid – the current ambassador to Spain, who also happens to be Christian.
The two ambassadors are due to be sent to their posts by the end of this year.
