UN Security Council finally calls for ceasefire

January 9th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

The UN Security Council has backed the resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

But the US still couldn’t bring itself to even bother to vote. It abstained.

And Israel is now in breach of ANOTHER UN resolution. It keeps murdering.

This morning, it fired on a house, killing six members of the same family.

Yesterday, UNRWA suspended its operations – saying Israel was “directly targeting” its workers, in unprecedented criticism. It says it has given Israel the exact GPS co-ordinates of its facilities, but it still targets them:

“We have been forced to suspend our aid operations in Gaza because of a number of incidents against our staff. Firstly, three Palestinian colleagues have been killed in the fighting, installations are taking direct hits and – in the latest incident – a convoy of three vehicles was going in to recover the body of a dead colleague when it came under direct fire from the Israeli Army. Now, the Israelis have the exact coordinates of all of our buildings, they’ve had that since well before the fighting, they have the coordinates of all of our movements, and they know who’s going where. There is simply no excuse, so the operations are suspended until the Israeli Army can guarantee the safety and security of a neutral United Nations human development agency, UNRWA”

Also unprecedented was the International Committee of the Red Cross accusing Israel of breaking international law by BLOCKING international medics from helping the wounded.

But after almost two weeks of inaction, at least the UN has dragged its lazy self off the sofa to do its job.

Pat yourselves on your back Arab leaders. Look, you achieved something. You delayed the Israeli withdrawal. Even UNRWA sounds more angry than you. Shame on you.
