Israel has made an astonishing claim – that its army on the illegally occupied Syrian Golan Heights was shot at, from Syria.
“In the afternoon, there were a number of bullets fired from Syria at an Israeli army force doing engineering work near the fence,” it said.
It has made it very clear that it was Palestinian militants, and not the Syrian army was fired the shots. This is similar to last week’s claim that rockets from Lebanon were fired by Palestinians there, and not Hizbollah. Israel is desperate not to open up a second, or third front.
Israel has now complained to UNDOF (the UN peacekeeping force on the Golan). Although after Israel killed two UN aid workers last week in Gaza, and deliberately targeted two UN schools, I wonder how much notice they will take.
