Bashar and Asma demand Gaza ceasefire – TV interviews

picture-11Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and his wife Asma have being doing the rounds, calling for a ceasefire.

Bashar talks to the BBC’s Jeremy Bowen here. And Asma does one of her first broadcast interviews – this one is with CNN’s greasy-haired Cal Perry here. She appears nervous at times, but powerful in her own gentle way. Her accent appears more Arabized than in the previous interview, with ABC a few years ago.

I didn’t have a chance to see Asma on CNN, but I especially liked Al Assad’s interview with CNN on the 7th I think it was?

“How did Hamas come to its position in the government? By election. And this election was supervised by Europeans and by Americans, including ex-President Jimmy Carter.

And they said, this is a democratic election. So the question, how could you have a terrorist organization elected democratically? They have to revise this contradiction. This means the whole people are terrorists and it doesn’t work. You cannot accuse the whole people as terrorist people.”

Thank you, Mr President!! That was a classic “proud to be Syrian” moment in my books. Good stuff, eh?
