UNRWA, the UN aid agency still operating in Gaza, has set the wheels in motion for an international investigation into Israel’s alleged war crimes. It follows another Israeli bombing of a UN school in Gaza – 2 are dead.
This adds to a growing list of crimes against the United Nations – 2 UN aid workers were killed at the border during a ceasefire, 40 dead after 2 UN schools were bombed more than a week ago, a few days ago the UN building in Gaza City was targeted destroying all aid and medicine, and now a UN school’s been bombed again.
Crimes against the UN are crimes against the world.
But that’s not all. Israel is also accused of:
-using white phosphorous (even, shamelessly, when they bombed the UN building),
-blocking Red Cross workers from helping the wounded,
-targeting Red Cross workers,
–evacuating 110 people into a building which the army then attacked killing 30,
-routine use of human shields (normally by taking over a family home to use as a sniper position, and ordering the family to stay in the front room), and many many more.
The Red Cross (the International Committee), the Palestinian Red Crescent, UNRWA and human rights field workers now have the difficult task of gathering evidence which will be able to stand up in an international war crimes tribunal.
Olmert, Livni and Barak may stay in their boltholes in Israel for the rest of their lives. They may never face jail, but the world will make sure they are convicted, that they can never leave Israel again, and that Israel is made a pariah state until these criminals are surrendered to The Hague.
Netenyahu. You’re next.
