It was bound to happen. The New York Times has got a huge feature piece on the One State Solution. The snowball keeps on rolling. Soon, we’ll be talking more about the OSS than the Two State idea.
But hold on a minute. Who has written the article? The Arabs’ house joker: Brother General, Supreme Guider of the Revolution, Muammar Qaddafi.
What’s even more surprising is how reasonable, measured, persuasive and well argued it is. Qaddafi has been a proponent of the One State Solution for many years – he wrote a book suggesting the name Isratine for the unified country. Hmm, exactly.
This time round, he has sobered up, and even comes out with lines like this:
“The basis for the modern State of Israel is the persecution of the Jewish people, which is undeniable. The Jews have been held captive, massacred, disadvantaged in every possible fashion by the Egyptians, the Romans, the English, the Russians, the Babylonians, the Canaanites and, most recently, the Germans under Hitler. The Jewish people want and deserve their homeland.”
“It is a fact that Palestinians inhabited the land and owned farms and homes there until recently, fleeing in fear of violence at the hands of Jews after 1948 … It is important to note that the Jews did not forcibly expel Palestinians. They were never “un-welcomed.” “
But yes, Isratine does get another mention. And he was doing so well.
The best thing, as Jillian York pointed out, is his byline: “Muammar Qaddafi is the leader of Libya.”
