Syria is getting a brand new daily English-language newspaper.
Stephen Starr reports that it will be called Baladna, and will have a similar format to its sister Arabic-language paper of the same name.
‘Our Country’ will be twenty-four pages long, and will be published five days a week. It will be edited by Reem Maghribi, who is in charge of What’s On Syria – also published by the same company, UG. UG is Syria’s biggest publishing house and advertising agency.
UG won the license after the Syria Times closed last June. The launch follows a massive drive for English-language journalists to run the paper.
The first edition is due out later this month.
