12 dead in bus crash

December 6th, 2009 · 3 Comments · Incidents

Another bus tragedy has claimed the lives of more innocent people in Syria.

12 people have died after a bus and truck heading for Iraq collided in north-eastern Syria. Both vehicles were destroyed in the accident. It’s thought high speed and fog were to blame. One of the drivers was on the wrong side of the road (probably overtaking) when the head-on collision occurred.

It is time that main roads like these had crash barriers dividing up the two directions of travel – to prevent drivers using the wrong side of the road for overtaking.

The tragedy comes just three days after three people died when an Iranian bus exploded in Damascus, the accident/atrocity* was caused by a tyre/bomb/lack of free-and-fair elections/other* (*delete according to your political opinions).

Time to retract? Or at least agree with the numerous articles that you have slated that there is at least cause for doubting the government’s explanation?

I have huge respect for Richard’s work, he’s a great journalist. But if we’re going to play battle of the links, perhaps you should read what Phil Sands has to say, it’s a more convincing argument:

    Or Josh Landis:

I’m not trying to play battle of the links with you at all. I don’t see why Phil Sands is more convincing than the Huffington Post. It seems to me that it is unclear what caused the blast and both authors explain convincingly that it could be either.

My complaint is that you, for no explicable reason, seem convinced it MUST have been an accident, rather than accept that we will never know. Yet you attacked the guardian for making this very point on the day of the explosion.

The regime is secretive and denied journalists access to the site, naturally arousing suspicion. Yet you denounced anyone who questioned their official story. I fear your patriotism is blinding your impartiality….
