The much anticipated Baladna English launches in a few hours.
The pre-launch excitement has even made it into the Guardian. But it’s been a long wait. Originally pencilled in for a May 2009 launch, this got pushed back a number of times. But finally, 9 December 2009 is the date Baladna English will hit newsstands.
The paper will be available in English five days a week from Damascus, and is published by UG, the same company which created What’s On. Baladna English will be the country’s first English language daily since the four-page Syria Times closed in the summer of 2008.
On their website, which doesn’t seem to have much on it, they are offering a free three-month subscription.
